Cave Temple Introduction  
        Bin County - is the cradle for propagation and living of the People in Zhou Dynasty in the ancient times,the birthplace of settled agriculture in the ancient China,the first station on the north road of the east section of the ancient "Silk Road" in the west of Chang'an,and called as the "Bright Pearl on the Silk Road". There are the staggered mountains and beautiful scenery.The Bin County Cave Temple is located at the foot of Qinglingshan Mountain at the south bank of Jing River ten kilometers to the west of the county.        In 618 AD Li Yuna attacked and occupied Chang'an, and proclaimed himself emperor.Xue Ju son commanded the army to attack Guanzhong,and intented to occupy the land.Li Shimin sent troops to meet and attack the army and finally defeated Xue Ju son in the Qianshuiyuan War However, one general achieved renown over the dead bodies of ten thousand soldiers Over 100,000 solders were killed in the battle.Li Shimin commanded people to engrave the Great Buddha on the Qinglingshan Mountain so as to memory and mourn the spirit of the brave departed comfort the survivors and carry forward the Buddhist doctrine It was called as "Yingfu Temple" after the grottoes were completed It was renamed as Qingshou Temple when the Emperor Ren of Northern Song Dynasty celebrated the birthday of his adopted mother of Empress Dowager Liu.The Buddha statues in the grottoes are tall and majestic generally and it is called as the Great Buddha Temple which is used from Ming Dynasty until now In 1988, the Bin County Cave Temple was announced as the national key cultural relics protection unit by the Silk Road.In 2005, it was evaluated as the national AAA level tourist attraction.In 2012, it was put in the list of the the application for the starting point of the Silk Road and the World Cultural Heritage of the "Tianshan Corridor"
        The Great Buddha Temple Grottoes in Bin County is the large-scale grotto temple near Chang'an, the starting point of the Silk Road.The grottoes between 7th century and 9th century show the achievements of Chinese Buddhist Art in Chang'an,the capital of the Tang Dynasty and its environs.The Bin County Cave Temple is the important representative which reflects the Buddhist art in Chang'an in Tang Dynasty in a large scale and continuously,so that people can understand.the far-reaching influence of the Buddhist art in Chang'an, the political center in Tang Dynasty,on the grotto temple statues in the later stage It also reveals the influence of the Buddhist art in Chang'an on East Asia.Therefore, the value of Bin County Cave Temple is not only reflected in the development of the Buddhist art,but also reflected in the important influence force of the Silk Road in the cultural transmission.
